Another Palin Classic

Posted by AB on July 4, 2009

Yesterday, as most know by now, former Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin announced her resignation as Governor of Alaska.  It was widely speculated that she would not run for re-election next year, but nobody could see this coming.  The speech, given from outside of her home in Alaska, was quite bizarre, replete with folksy soundbites.  The text of the entire speech is at TPM.

Palin’s speech was, to most viewers, nonsensical.  Her actions have fueled speculation that she will begin campaigning for the Republican Presidential nomination for 2012, or that she will soon be indicted on federal charges related to the building of her home and a contract to build a sporting complex in Wasilla, Alaska.  I think that the latter makes more sense, but we’ll find out soon enough.

I do, however, want to point out my favorite paragraph in her resignation speech:

Life is too short to compromise time and resources…it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand:  “Sit down and shut up,” but that’s the worthless, easy path; that’s a quitter’s way out.  And a problem in our country today is apathy.  It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flow.”

Say what?  Didn’t she just quit her job.  No matter how you feel about Sarah Palin, you have to admit that she’s got guts.  How else could one rail against quitters, while quitting?  That’s classic.
